MY NAME IS...CHARLOTTE
To kick start our new series of conversations with tastemakers, we chat to the accomplished Charlotte Rey, a consummate multi-hyphenate with an eye for colour, print and detail. The co-founder of award-winning design consultancy Campbell-Rey, her work spans interiors, books, furniture and product design.
Her design DNA is defined by a love of colour, eclecticism, and a playful, irreverent spirit. A maximalist-lover, Charlotte grew up in Sweden and lives in West London, where her elegant home features jewel-tone velvet sofas, dark florals on the walls and a vast collection of art coffee table books, all brought to life by a verdant garden and an immaculate resident feline.
WHAT PLACE OR DESTINATION GIVES YOU THAT SUNSHINE FEELING?
Sri Lanka. I've been a few times travelling all over the island, it's just beautiful, with an incredible history and nature. I especially enjoy the north eastern parts, what is known as the 'cultural triangle' which has wonderful monuments.
MY NAME IS RIO IS A MANTRA. WHAT IS YOURS?
Everything is perfect. I was in Brazil in December and saw someone who had this tattooed on their arm in the middle of quite a chaotic situation and I thought it was funny but also reassuring.
WHICH WOMAN CAPTIVATED YOU GROWING UP?
Grace Jones. Still does. She's an incredible and powerful singer.
WHAT ARE YOU MANIFESTING FOR 2022?
Greater freedom. I believe everyone is enjoying the world opening up and being able to spend more time with loved ones.
WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU DANCED BAREFOOT IN THE SAND?
Last weekend in Marrakesh where I spend quite a bit of time as my fiancé lives there. It’s a great place with a fantastic music scene.
WHERE DO YOU GO TO RECONNECT?
My bed. Sleep always put me straight.
WHERE DO YOU GO IN YOUR DAYDREAMS?
To work. I am lucky in that what I do is what I have dreamt of doing since I was a little.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURITE PIECES FROM THE COLLECTION?
The Beija-Flor cotton skirt and top.
WHICH SONG IS PLAYING IN YOUR MIND AT THE MOMENT?
I've been listening to Be Svendsen - Drop the Gun all morning.
